Geneva

Geneva's Escalade switzerlandforvisitors.com
Watch a 17th Century parade, smash chocolate soup pots, and give coins to costumed children during Geneva's annual celebration of a failed military invasion in early December. (A Christmas market also takes place throughout the month of December.)

Zürich

Christkindlimarkt Zürich
Europe's largest indoor Christmas market takes place in Zürich's main railway station and its underground mall. Walk up the mile-long Bahnhofstrasse (with its 20,000+ Christmas lights) to the station, where a tree with more than 7,000 lights and ornaments stands in the main hall.

For more on Zürich Christmas events, visit the tourist office in the Hauptbahnhof (main railroad station). Finally, if you're traveling with children, don't miss a ride with St. Nick on the "Fairytale Tram," which runs on the Bahnhofstrasse during the Advent season.

Christmas in Lucerne
Choose from at least half a dozen Christmas market (including a Christmas Tree Market if you've a place to put your Weihnachtsbaum).
